The Monthly Report: June ☀️😎🍦

What We’re Reading, Eating, Playing, Obsessing, Recommending, & Treating

Welcome to the Monthly R.E.P.O.R.T. → June Edition! ☀️😎🍦

Here’s what happened this month (so far):

Midwest VC’s 🤝 Europe Trip

Maria and Jacqueline Lensing from Grand Ventures, another Midwest-based VC firm, met for dinner in Barcelona. Oh yeah, and it was their first meeting in person! Small world 🌎

In other travel news:

Maria left Missouri to start what she calls her “Werk from EuroSummer”; yep, she is still doing her job (cooking for the Redbud portco’s) from abroad.

Emily will be in Nebraska and Montana later this month. Additionally, she’ll be hanging out at the gener8tor Wealth and Insurance conference in Minneapolis!

READING 📚

Emily’s Reading: The Art of Gathering by Priya Parker

Literally just started this book… a full review to come.

This book was recommended on the podcast, No Stupid Questions. The book outlines Parker’s approach to gatherings that “create meaningful, memorable experiences, large and small, for work and for play.”

If you enjoy hosting or you plan a lot of events for work, this might be a great read for you!

Shoutout Keith for the rec.

Maria’s Reading: The Creative Act: A Way of Being by Rick Rubin

Odds are, if you’ve been in any bookstore in the past 18 months, you’ve seen The Creative Act sitting on an endcap. It is just as excellent as the sticky notes from bookstore employees across the country note.

I’ve never thought of myself as “a creative”, and after reading this book, I still don’t, but I see my creativity as fundamental to my existence.

Rubin’s career and how he has been able to remain grounded is equally impressive.

Catch me listening to the birds and knowing how far they are behind me all this summer IFYKYK!

EATING 🍴

Emily’s Eating: Hi Flora! Minneapolis

I got to visit this new restaurant in Minneapolis with my college bestie, Grace.

Hi Flora! is a vegan restaurant and temperance (no alcohol) bar.

The food is BOMB and the space is so cute ❤️

Maria’s Eating: Fritters and Smash at the Seagull Method

I’m indulging in Euro Summer when I’m not working, and this weekend, I treated myself to brunch at the Seagull Method in Lisbon.

They came via my server's recommendation, and I was a bit skeptical of corn cakes for breakfast, but these were fire! Complete with avo smash, chili oil, and a poached egg they made for the most delightful breakfast! 🐥

PLAYING 🎲

Emily’s Playing: Pickleball

Keith and I joined a social pickleball league this summer.

We’ve also tried out a new local club called Chip’s. They also have a coffee shop, sauna, gym, and cold plunge!

We’re finally getting better! We’ve also taken a couple skills classes at a local pickleball club - highly recommend this!

I did cry

Maria’s Playing: Primavera Sound

I went to Primavera Sound in Barcelona a few weeks ago, and it was magical!

Highlights were getting close to Lana, Troye Sivan’s set, and hearing Charli XCX’s brat before it came out.

I can’t wait for the rest of the summer concert lineup! 🎶

OBSESSING 🤩

Emily’s Obsessing: Sex and the City

I have finally entered my SATC era. Can’t believe I’ve never seen it before.

This is girlhood ❤️

Maria’s Obsessing: Coke, Ice, Lemon

This is an unparalleled culinary experience.

RECOMMENDING 🏁

Emily’s Recommending: Home town summer visit 🏠

I spent a week back in my hometown this month and it was FABULOUS.

Highly recommending you take a visit to your home town in the summer - very nostalgic and there’s something wholesome about visiting all your old favorite spots.

My workspace in Lisbon, Portugal

Maria’s Recommending: Outsite

While I’ve been traveling and working, I’ve been staying with Outsite. Outsite provides living and co-working spaces for digital nomads across the world.

I love the community aspect, learning about how other people work and travel, and the wonderful spaces. 🌎

TREATING 💫

Emily’s Treating: ice cream!

I’ve been treating myself to lots of different ice cream stops while I travel this summer. This is one of my favorite rituals in the summer!! 🍦

Maria’s Treating: basically a pastry a day

I love baked goods, and I have definitely been indulging lately!
